I've done research in surgical AI with cross-functional teams which have included other ML scientists, data scientists, surgeons, and clinical information specialists. The core application was surgical visual scene understanding using: 1) surgical activity recongition, 2) surgical tool localization and identification in video, and 3) large- and vision-language model based reasoning systems.
